For several months, Egypt has launched discreet numerous airstrikes against convoys of Emirati weapons destined for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Libya and Sudan. Egyptian aircraft and drones were reportedly involved in June, October, and November 2025, as well as on January 9 2026, to strike these convoys between Kufrah airbase and Darfur, which is under RSF control. Egypt has notably struck convoys that mistakenly crossed its border in the triangular region. However, the most recent strikes aim to deter Haftar's Libya and the United Arab Emirates from using southeastern Libya to supply the RSF with weapons, ammunition, and mercenaries. The recent closure of Saudi, Egyptian, and Somali airspace to the UAE now forces Emirati cargo planes to transit through Djibouti, Ethiopia, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and Chad to reach southeastern Libya. Contact with the aircraft was lost at 20:52. An emergency landing notification was received from the aircraft in the vicinity of Haymana; however, no further communication has been established since then.
