Protests are taking place in Tripoli, the capital of Libya, against Abdulhamid Dbaiba, the Prime Minister of the Tripoli-based National Unity Government. The public holds Dbaiba responsible for the recent clashes in which civilians were killed.
1 day agoCeasefire has been declared in Tripoli. Despite the cessation of hostilities in Tripoli, the situation remains tense. There have been isolated clashes in the west of Tripoli. In line with the instructions of the Ministry of Interior, a joint force of the Directorate of Law Enforcement and the Emergency Police has been deployed to the contact points in the capital, Tripoli, to enforce the ceasefire and ensure security
Clashes continue in western Tripoli, and militants from Zawiya announce their control of Ghiran Island and their entry into the Sarraj area.
In Tripoli, the Libyan capital, reports this evening indicate that clashes have spread across the capital, which is controlled by the Government of National Unity. Clashes also took place between government forces and the "Deterrence Forces" in a prison, resulting in the escape of a large number of prisoners. The Red Crescent Society in Tripoli declared a state of emergency.
Military sources told Al-Arabiya TV: Armed clashes in Tripoli have expanded after the arrival of military forces from the western region.

3 day agoAbu Salim and SSA HQs are now under the control of the MOD-affiliated 444 Brigade under Mahmoud Hamza and 111 Brigade under Abdelsalam al-Zubi. Remnants of SSA have dispersed, and its leadership escaped or took refuge outside Tripoli/Libya.
UNSMIL is closely monitoring reports of the military build-up and escalating tensions in Tripoli and the broader western region. We urgently call on all parties to immediately deescalate the situation, refrain from any provocative actions, and resolve disputes through dialogue. The Mission strongly supports Libyan efforts, including those led by elders and community leaders, to achieve a peaceful resolution and emphasizes the critical responsibility of all parties to protect civilians
